Statistical investigations

We are conducting a statistical investigation to see which paper planes will fly further. We will be learning about scatter plots and will try to establish a relationships between variables. We will have a class competition to see who can come up with the most successful designs.

Here are some links to useful websites, to help any investigating at home.

Calendar Art

Its that time of year again, when the children have been creating their own piece of art work, in the hopes that you may wish to have it made into a 2012 calendar.

We are working on these as quickly as they can, and they will be displayed in our classroom window facing out to the staff carpark so that you can see it before you order it.

The art work can be made into a diary ($15) or a calendar ($10) or a set of 8 cards ($12).

You can also email the manufacturer a photo of you choice to get made into the above items. All details are on the order forms coming home today.

New Page

Hey you guys!!! Today Rachel showed some of the teachers a fabulous website to help create learning games. I have added a new page to our blog; look down the right hand side where is says "But wait, there's more...." and click on Basic Facts Games. These are just some games to help learn your basic facts. There are loads of different games (hundreds!) I'll keep changing the games every couple of weeks! Have fun!

Rules of Dog Ownership

These are just three of the nine rules that we learnt about today.

We also got a certificate and a Take Home Book each.

Did you know.... you can be fined $300 if you do not pick up your dog's poop!!!!

Poppa-Jack

We used our persuasive language skills to convince Bronnie to bring "Poppa-Jack" in to see us. He was found wandering the streets of Mangere, and no-one has come looking for him. That must mean that he didn't have a microchip, and that he was not wearing registration tags. Those are two of the rules we learnt today!

Dog Management.

Today Bronnie from Dog Management came to talk to us about owning dogs and being safe around dogs. One of the rules about owning Dogs is the the owner must KNOW ALL THE RULES about owning dogs. Miss Brown doesn't own a dog, and she knew hardly any of the rules! She learnt HEAPS!

Science Roadshow

Wow... what an awesome display of cool science activities and experiments we saw yesterday. Some of the children tried to explain how some of the experiments worked, and then they entered a draw to win a cool prize. Both Karleen and Ruby-Jean won out of all the Year 5's and 6's. Awesome! They got some groovy 3D glasses and some cool pictures to look at, plus some information on how to down load some more cool things to look at. We hope they enjoy them. The Science Roadshow guys showed us some pretty cool experiments with fire, which we loved. They burnt a hole through a piece of metal coated in Zinc. The zinc melted and started to run off in little rivers and then it cooled down like that. We've got it in our class to look at!

Welcome Back! Yay - Term Three!

Hi everyone.

The syndicate teachers spent a FULL day at school on Monday, planning for some terrific work this term. We have got some really exciting things happening, and I can't wait to see you all on Monday to tell you all about it.

I am currently at an e-Learning Conference with teachers from about 7 different schools, and I am working in a blogging workshop at the moment! Wish me luck, we might start to see a lot more action on our class blog after I've mastered a few more skills.

On wednesday 30 of february the Franklin schools triathlon was on. It was at clarks beach.I was in the ten year olds group. In a triathlon you swim first then bike and last you run.In the run i had the fifth fastest time out of the ten year old girls group! In the ten year old girls group we have to swim 100 metres bike 4 kilometres and run 2 kilometres! it's pretty exhausting!! I may not have come first second or even third but i do know that i tried my hardest and i am proud!

St Johns

On Thursday the 31 March room 9 went to the old room 8 for St Johns. First we were learning about what we should take care of first like if someone is sitting in the corner screaming ouch ouch it hurts you know they are breathing so you should check on the quiet person because they might be dead or dying. Secondly we were practicing what to do whe someone is unconscious like dialling 111 and to not leave them lying on their back that's why we learnt to turn them to their side gently without hurting them. Lastly we practiced bandaging. Practing bandaging is when you are banaging someones cut bodypart that is really bad. IT was great I couldn't wait to tell my family about it.
